![]() | Mike KohnChantilly, VirginiaUSA bobsled.teamusa.org/athletes/mike-kohn Mike Kohn is a Sergeant in the Virginia Army National Guard and a member of the National Guard Outstanding Athlete Program. Kohn joined the National Guard in 1999 as an Infantry Soldier, and is one of several U.S. Olympic bobsled-soldier athletes that have benefited from the Outstanding Athlete Program. Kohn began the sport of bobsled during his senior year in High School when Coach Carlino wrote him a letter on June 6, 1990 welcoming him to the team. Kohn was the youngest competitor in the 1991 Olympic Trials, and went on to win the 2002 Olympic 4-man Bronze medal with driver Brian Shimer. Kohn was also named to the 2006 Olympic team as an alternate. Kohn was forced to cut his 2006-07 season short due to a strained calf muscle at World Championships, a result of complications from compartment syndrome. He was able to compete in four World Cup stops, finishing with three top-ten World Cup finishes. Kohn graduated from George Mason University in1997 with a degree in health, fitness and recreation management. ABOUT ME: Mike was named among People Magazine's "Top 50 Most Eligible Bachelors" in 2002. In 2002, Mike visited Afghanistan as a representative of the National Guard. Mike's brother, Nicholas, is a Broadway performer. He is a son to a former Green Beret in the U.S. Army.
